Essex Film Maker’s Blatella Films continue to make their mark globally!

Lucy ContrinoBy Lucy Contrino28/05/20252 Mins Read

Essex-based Film Maker’s Blatella Films feature award-winning documentary film ‘Our Journey to Pride,’ captures the incredible story of how Thurrock came together to host its first-ever Pride, celebrating diversity, and community.  The film’s success continues across the globe with the announcement that having already being awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award for Best LGBT Film at the Silver Wings International Film Festival in India; the top award of ‘Best Featured Film’ at the Lavender Riot Film Festival in Tennessee at the end of 2024; Best LGBT Film at the Indo Dubai International Film Festival; and a screening at the East London LGBTQ+ Film Festival, the film has now been selected for two more international film festivals, both in India. The Athvikvaruni International Film Festival in Kerala and the Majestic King International film festival in Tamil Nadu.

Blatella Films have previously worked with multiple Pride events and have a long-standing sponsorship relationship with Southend-On-Sea Pride.  They would love to work on more around the UK, to promote community and inclusion in society.

This week, Blatella Films also received the great news that a short film they created for Butterfly Conservation has been selected for the London Nature Film Festival and is to be screened on 15th June 2025 in London.  This pop-up festival celebrates live-action films and their makers and causes from London’s green spaces. Documentaries and short films will be screened at the festival about nature and greening activities across London; from personal stories and nature conservation to urban gardening, outdoor wellbeing, and campaigning for nature-based solutions.

The film from Blatella Films focuses on the organisation’s ‘Big City Butterflies’ project and their actions to ‘re-wild’ London by creating wildflower meadows to support native species that are on the decline and educational initiatives for people across London. You can read more about the project here: https://butterfly-conservation.org/BCB

The Film’s Director Benjamin Scarsbrook, of Blatella Films said:
“It’s an honour to be selected for any film festival, but to get three in one day is incredible!”
