Italy’s Most Instagrammable Road Trips Revealed

Sam AllcockBy Sam Allcock03/08/20244 Mins Read

A recent study by travel experts from amalfi-coast-tours.com has unveiled the most Instagrammable road trips in Italy, identifying routes that boast the highest number of social media posts. As Italy continues to be a premier destination for European getaways, this research aids social media-savvy travellers in planning their journeys based on the most visually appealing routes.

Topping the list is the five-day road trip from Rome to Florence. This route has captured the hearts and lenses of many, averaging 6,787,677 Instagram posts per stop. The study analysed popular road trip routes highlighted on reputable travel sites, considering the total number of Instagram posts tagged at each stop to determine the most picturesque journeys.

Second place is claimed by the Northern Italy route through the Veneto and Trentino regions, with an average of 5,230,054 posts per stop. This ten-day journey showcases the charm and beauty of Northern Italy, making it a favourite among travellers.

The third most Instagrammable route is the Southern Italy and Sicily trip, starting in Naples and ending in Palermo. This journey sees an average of 3,252,421 posts per stop, highlighting the rich culture and stunning landscapes of Southern Italy and Sicily.

Following closely is the road trip circling from Milan through Northwest Italy, including Lombardy, Liguria, and Piedmont. This route averages 3,068,671 posts per stop, reflecting its popularity among those seeking a scenic Italian adventure.

Rounding out the top five is the Northern Italy Lakes route, starting in Milan. This seven-day journey has an average of 2,991,062 posts per stop, showcasing the picturesque lakes and surrounding landscapes.

Other notable routes include the circular trip through Tuscany starting in Florence, the Sardinia route starting in Olbia, and the Puglia journey beginning in Bari. Each of these routes averages over a million Instagram posts per stop, underscoring their visual appeal.

At the lower end of the list is a three-day road trip in Molise, based in Termoli. This route has an average of 226,672 posts per stop, significantly less than the most popular journeys but still notable for its charm.

The five-day route from Ancona to Ascoli Piceno also ranks towards the bottom, with an average of 234,631 posts per stop. Despite fewer posts, these routes still offer unique and picturesque experiences for those looking to explore lesser-known parts of Italy.

Magdalena Petrusic from Tours & Tickets commented on the findings, saying, “This study unveils the most Instagram-worthy Road trip routes in Italy, perfect for those who prefer the contemporary trend of driving down picturesque roads versus flying or staying in one destination. This ranking reflects the timeless appeal of these destinations and underscores the growing influence of social media in travel decisions. As travellers seek authentic experiences and picturesque landscapes, this study is a valuable resource for those planning aesthetic Italian adventures.”

With summer approaching, these findings provide valuable insights for travellers eager to capture the perfect Italian road trip. Whether it’s the classic Rome to Florence route or the scenic Northern Italy Lakes journey, Italy offers numerous visually stunning adventures for the social media-savvy traveller.
