Three-time World’s Strongest Man winner, Tom Stoltman from Invergordon, Scotland has revealed his top tip for cooking steak at home, and his method might just surprise you.
In one of his latest Instagram posts, Tom revealed that he’s recently started relying on his trusty air fryer to deliver a perfectly cooked steak every time. In the video, we see Tom add a generous knob of butter to the top of each steak before cooking for 13 minutes.
Despite mixed opinions, it appears that Tom’s method might be catching on. In the days following the post, Google searches for “can you cook steak in the air fryer” increased by 60% across the UK.
Now, experts at online butchers Campbells Meat have revealed their top tips for cooking a steak in the air fryer.
A spokesperson from Campbells Meat comments,
“Despite the controversy, we can’t fault Tom for his uncommon yet easy to follow method when it comes to cooking the perfect steak. Air fryers are a great addition to any kitchen and can be used to cook a variety of different meats and dishes, and steak is no different.
“If you’re planning to try Tom’s method at home, we recommend opting for a ribeye or sirloin which are about one inch thick. Preheat the air fryer to between 200-230°C and season your steak generously with salt, pepper and a dash of oil.
“Depending on the thickness of your steak and your desired level of doneness, it will usually take six to ten minutes for your steak to cook. Always use a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches the internal temperature of your preferred doneness.”
The experts at Campbells Meat recommend the following temperatures for each level of doneness.
- 52°C for rare
- 57°C for medium-rare
- 63°C for medium
- 66°C for medium/well
- 71°C for well done
