“If your car’s air con is on the brink or not working altogether, driving in hot weather can be sticky and uncomfortable, especially if having to make a long journey. But with a few smart hacks, you can stay a lot cooler behind the wheel.
“Where possible, plan your journeys early in the morning or later in the evening, when the sun’s not at its peak. During the drive, open windows slightly to allow air flow, but avoid having them fully down at high speeds, as this can reduce cooling and increase fuel use.
“Reflective windscreen sunshades are your best friend and should be used whenever you park, especially if you’re in direct sunlight. However, if you’re in a pinch, a sheet of tin foil can act as a last-minute alternative.
“If you have leather seats, you can also drape light towels or T-shirts over dark seats to stop them from absorbing heat and scorching bare skin when you sit down.
“If you know a heatwave is coming, prepare by freezing a few bottles of water in advance. Having them on hand can keep your car cooler and serve as a refreshing drink once they begin to melt.
“Finally, if you’re taking a long trip during hot weather, be sure to take regular breaks, check your coolant levels, and stay hydrated to ensure both you and your car reach your destination safely.”
