Top 10 UK Counties with the Most Speed Cameras

Lucy ContrinoBy Lucy Contrino17/06/20252 Mins Read

New research has revealed the UK’s speed camera capitals, where drivers are most likely to face the flash. Lancashire leads the pack with a hefty 225 cameras, edging out South Wales at 200 and Essex at 195, in a nationwide crackdown on speeding.

The security and safety experts at Online Spy Shop  compiled the data from extensive analysis of road safety records, police reports, and enforcement statistics, delivering a definitive top 10 list of regions bristling with speed cameras. These figures spotlight the areas where motorists need to watch their speed—or their wallets.

  1. Lancashire – 225 cameras
  2. South Wales – 200 cameras
  3. Essex – 195 cameras
  4. Greater Manchester – 173 cameras
  5. City of London – 161 cameras
  6. Hampshire – 145 cameras
  7. West Yorkshire – 135 cameras
  8. Kent – 130 cameras
  9. West Midlands – 122 cameras
  10. Cheshire – 113 cameras

A spokesperson for Online Spy Shop weighed in on the findings:

“Speed cameras are popping up like never before, and our research shows where they’re hitting hardest. Lancashire’s 225 cameras are a wake-up call—those sprawling rural roads and busy towns like Preston are under serious watch. South Wales, with 200, isn’t far behind, clamping down from Cardiff to the valleys with a vengeance. Essex’s 195 cameras prove those A-roads and motorways are no place for lead-foots, while Greater Manchester’s 173 keep the M60 and city streets in check.

City of London’s 161 might sound mad for such a small patch, but with its 8,000 residents and millions of daily commuters, it’s a camera jungle. Hampshire’s 145 and Kent’s 130 target their coastal routes and M20 hotspots, while West Yorkshire’s 135 and West Midlands’ 122 tackle urban chaos in Leeds and Birmingham. Cheshire’s 113 round it out, proving even quieter counties aren’t camera-shy. These aren’t just numbers—they’re a full-on blitz to slow drivers down and save lives. Whether you’re dodging fines or just cruising, these hotspots demand respect!”

The data paints a vivid picture: Lancashire’s rural and urban mix makes it a camera king, while South Wales’ enforcement spans a region notorious for tricky roads. City of London’s dense tally stands out against its tiny size, contrasting with Greater Manchester’s sprawling coverage. From Essex’s commuter belts to Cheshire’s quieter lanes, these counties are locked and loaded with cameras.
