Top of the Charts: Split, Croatia
Split, Croatia, takes the top spot with an impressive average cleanliness rating of 4.93 out of 5, as reviewed by a total of 34,574 visitors. Not only does Split excel in cleanliness, but it also boasts an overall rating of 4.88 out of 5 across six key factors: Cleanliness, Accuracy, Check-in, Communication, Location, and Value. With a median price of £75 per night, Split is the 11th cheapest city in the study, making it a desirable destination for those seeking both quality and affordability.
Close Contenders: Dubrovnik and Athens
Following closely behind Split is Dubrovnik, Croatia, with an average cleanliness rating of 4.92 based on 31,638 reviews. Dubrovnik also scored 4.86 out of 5 across all six factors and shares the joint tenth spot for the cheapest nightly stay, averaging £71 alongside Frankfurt, Germany.
Athens, Greece, secures third place with a cleanliness rating of 4.89 out of 5 from 35,609 reviews. The Greek capital also achieved an overall rating of 4.87 out of 5 and ranks as the seventh cheapest city with a median price of £67.50 per night.
Edinburgh and a Three-Way Tie for Fifth
Edinburgh, Scotland, places fourth with an average cleanliness rating of 4.88 out of 5, based on 39,791 reviews. The city scored equally high across all six factors but is one of the more expensive destinations, with a nightly stay costing £124, making it the joint second most expensive city alongside Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Fifth place is shared by three cities: Bratislava, Slovakia; Krakow, Poland; and Venice, Italy. All three cities have an average cleanliness rating of 4.87 out of 5. Bratislava offers a relatively affordable stay at £69 per night, Krakow is the second cheapest city at £58 per night, and Venice is among the pricier options at £121.50 per night.
Reykjavik and Geneva: Joint Sixth
Reykjavik, Iceland, and Geneva, Switzerland, tie for sixth place with an average cleanliness rating of 4.86 out of 5. Reykjavik stands out as the most expensive city for a one-night stay at £139.50, while Geneva is more moderately priced at £92 per night.
Seventh and Eighth Place Rankings
Florence, Italy; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Ljubljana, Slovenia; Warsaw, Poland; and Bilbao, Spain, share the seventh spot with an average cleanliness rating of 4.85 out of 5. Among these, Warsaw is the most affordable at £58.50 per night, while Amsterdam and Florence are among the more costly destinations.
In eighth place are Munich, Germany; Riga, Latvia; Bordeaux, France; Tallinn, Estonia; Zurich, Switzerland; and Dublin, Ireland, all with a cleanliness score of 4.84 out of 5.
Ninth and Tenth Place Rankings
Eight cities share the ninth spot with a cleanliness rating of 4.83 out of 5. These cities include Porto, Portugal; Cologne, Germany; Berlin, Germany; Milan, Italy; Seville, Spain; Bucharest, Romania; Stockholm, Sweden; and Vienna, Austria.
Finally, Helsinki, Finland; Frankfurt, Germany; Lisbon, Portugal; and Luxemburg City, Luxembourg, are tied for tenth place with an average cleanliness rating of 4.82 out of 5.
Least Clean Cities
At the bottom of the ranking, though still with commendable scores, are Paris, France, and Valencia, Spain, both with an average cleanliness rating of 4.75 out of 5.
