Earlier this week, GQ Magazine crowned Formula One star Lewis Hamilton as the best-dressed man at this year’s Met Gala.
While Hamilton blew both fans and fashion critics away with this year’s Met Gala look, new research suggests that the Ferrari driver may have sparked a new fashion trend.
According to research by QR Code Generator, online searches for ‘Beret’ have increased by a staggering 130% since Lewis Hamilton took to the Met Gala red carpet last week.
Online searches for ‘Beret cap for men’ and ‘Beret hat’ are also trending following Hamilton’s Met Gala appearance.
For this year’s Met Gala theme of ‘Tailored for You,’ Hamilton wore an ivory suit with a cropped jacket and high-waisted trousers, accessorised with a white bow tie, an embroidered ivory sash, and buckled shoes. The look was perfectly paired with a white beret by Stephen Jones.
The seven-time Formula One World Champion has been met with widespread praise on social media for his thoughtful interpretation of this year’s theme, which was inspired by the upcoming Costume Institute’s exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
Hamilton’s look at this year’s Met Gala was designed by Wales Bonner and styled by Eric McNeal. The final look took months of research to create.
McNeal took to Instagram to explain more about the outfit’s carefully considered details: “This look is a meditation on ancestry, adornment, and the sacred language of elegance. Ivory for purity and presence. Cowries for memory and protection. A garnet-hued gleam for quiet strength.”
Since last week’s Met Gala, Hamilton has already gained over 84,000 followers on Instagram. It seems as though all attention is on the Formula One driver, as online searches for ‘Who is Lewis Hamilton?’ have soared by over 417% since last Monday’s event.
Online searches for ‘Lewis Hamilton girlfriend’ are also on the rise following the 2025 Met Gala, increasing by over 130%. Searches for the term peaked when Hamilton’s look was debuted on the red carpet. Funnily enough, Hamilton’s ex-flame, Nicole Scherzinger was also in attendance at this year’s Met Gala.
Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator, has commented on Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 Met Gala look:
“In the fashion world, the Met Gala is undeniably one of the most anticipated events of the year, which is why there’s always so much attention placed on Anna Wintour’s exclusive guest list.
“As one of the co-chairs for this year’s event, Lewis Hamilton’s look certainly didn’t disappoint. The Formula One star has been praised for his insightful interpretation of this year’s theme ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,’ with Hamilton’s final look containing plenty of detailed symbolism.
“It’s fantastic to see how Hamilton’s look at the 2025 event already seems to be sparking a new fashion trend, as searches for ‘Beret for men’ are already on the rise.
“Often, social media’s reaction to the Met can stir up some controversy if a celebrity doesn’t seem to be ‘on theme,’ but this year’s event has been one of the most successful yet, with celebrities like Hamilton, Zendaya, Ayo Edebiri, and Janelle Monáe all debuting some highly memorable looks that will go down in Met Gala history.”
