Cartwright King Solicitors has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of prominent solicitor Ravi Kaur Mahey as Director of the South-East Child Care team. This move comes as part of the firm’s ongoing strategy to expand its presence and capabilities across the UK legal sector.
Ravi, a solicitor with over 20 years of experience, is recognised as one of the country’s leading figures in children law. She has joined Cartwright King after an illustrious career that has seen her shortlisted for prestigious awards, including ‘Partner of the Year’ in 2018, and receiving commendation at the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards in 2019 for her outstanding contribution to the profession.
In her new role, Ravi will lead Cartwright King’s growing Child Care team in the South-East, bringing a wealth of expertise to the position. Her distinguished career has earned her rankings in both the Chambers Directory (Band 2) and the Legal 500, two of the most respected legal directories in the UK.
Ravi specialises in all areas of children law, particularly public law cases where she represents children through their guardians. Over her 17-year specialisation in children law, she has handled complex and sensitive cases involving forced marriages, honour-based violence, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and abandoned spouses.
Ravi, who is also a Solicitor-Advocate, expressed her enthusiasm about joining the firm. “It’s an honour to be part of Cartwright King, a firm with such a dedicated and talented team of professionals. Their approach to working with clients is calm, collected, and effective, and I look forward to contributing my skills and experience to help us achieve even greater success.”
Cartwright King’s CEO, Abdul Hussain, welcomed the appointment, noting the valuable skills and fresh perspective Ravi brings to the firm. “We are thrilled to have someone of Ravi’s calibre join our leadership team. She has not only demonstrated excellence in her legal practice, but her commitment to her community and her involvement in pro bono work are qualities that align with our values as a firm.”
Ravi has made significant contributions to pro bono work throughout her career, running free legal clinics for vulnerable communities. She has collaborated with organisations such as Women’s Aid, Father’s Groups, MENCAP, the national FGM clinic, Not Beyond Redemption, and Children Heard and Seen, offering support and legal guidance in complex family and children law matters.
Her appointment comes as part of Cartwright King’s broader efforts to expand and enhance its legal services, particularly in areas such as Child Care, Family Law, Financial and Corporate Crime, and Immigration. The firm, recognised by both the Legal 500 and Chambers Guide as a leading law firm, continues to provide services to both publicly funded and private clients.
“Ravi’s deep commitment to her clients and her extensive experience in children law make her a perfect fit for Cartwright King,” said Mr Hussain. “We are confident that with her leadership, our Child Care team in the South-East will flourish, and we look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of our firm.”
With 24 new staff recently joining, Cartwright King is poised to continue its expansion and offer high-quality legal representation to clients across the UK.
