China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has unveiled significant milestones in its efforts to promote high-quality development and support China’s modernization during a special event held on October 10th in Beijing.
This marks the first time Sinopec has publicly shared its notable accomplishments, which encompass a broad spectrum of areas including energy security, industrial development, green and low-carbon initiatives, and technological innovation. These achievements reflect the ongoing transformation within one of China’s leading enterprises.
Among the ten key achievements highlighted, Sinopec showcased its Project Deep Earth No.1, which sets a new industry benchmark in oil and gas development. The project has established four oil and gas zones with a production scale of over one hundred million tonnes, reinforcing China’s position within the global oil and gas industry.
Another significant accomplishment is Sinopec’s complete aromatic hydrocarbon technology solution, which positions China as the third country in the world to possess this technology. This development is expected to drive future breakthroughs and elevate China’s capabilities in this sector.
The Fuling shale gas field, recognised as China’s first commercially developed shale gas project, has been instrumental in leading the evolution of shale gas in eastern China. Since its inception, the project has delivered nearly 70 billion cubic metres of gas to the Yangtze River Economic Belt, contributing to energy security in the region.
In the realm of sustainability, Sinopec has made strides with its million-ton carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) pilot project, aligning with global carbon neutrality trends. Additionally, the company’s complete geothermal energy pilot project is currently providing heat to the city of Xiong’an, demonstrating its commitment to alternative energy solutions.
Sinopec’s state-of-the-art ethylene base has also set new benchmarks within the industry, while the company has upgraded its premium petroleum products fuel standard from the National 1 Standard to the National 6 Standard. This moves highlights Sinopec’s dedication to improving fuel quality and reducing emissions.
In its efforts to lead the shale oil development sector, Sinopec is actively engaged in exploiting China’s onshore faulted basins. The company has also implemented a wide array of green initiatives aimed at fostering environmentally friendly industry practices.
One of the standout projects is the Kuqa green hydrogen pilot initiative in northwest China, which is being hailed as the largest solar-to-hydrogen project globally. This ambitious venture aims to pave the way for innovative green hydrogen refining and serve as a model for sustainable energy production in China.
Chairman Ma Yongsheng emphasised Sinopec’s commitment to leading industry development and setting new benchmarks as part of China’s modernization efforts. “As we embark on this new journey, Sinopec will continue to take on core responsibilities and strive for energy security, new industrialisation, and resilience in scientific and technological innovation,” he stated. “We aim to gather momentum for progress and prioritise a people-centred approach.”
As Sinopec continues to advance its projects, the company remains dedicated to supporting China’s aspirations for a greener, more sustainable future while reinforcing its leadership position in the global energy sector.
