Hemel Hempstead Nursery Earns ‘Good’ Ofsted Rating

Sam AllcockBy Sam Allcock21/09/20243 Mins Read

Partou Bourne Explorers Day Nursery and Pre-School in Hemel Hempstead has received a ‘Good’ rating in all areas from Ofsted following a recent inspection. The report highlights the nursery’s commitment to providing an engaging learning environment, with children expressing eagerness to attend and enjoy their time there.

The Ofsted inspector noted that the staff work diligently to create a safe and stimulating atmosphere for all children. Outdoor play opportunities were particularly praised, with babies developing their physical skills in a dedicated garden area, while older children have access to expansive outdoor spaces, including a forest area for exploration.

The inspection report commended staff for implementing consistent strategies that promote positive behaviour among children. It stated, “They use group discussions to explore the impact that inappropriate behaviour has on others,” and emphasized the use of praise to celebrate children’s good behaviour.

Situated just a short distance from the A41, Partou Bourne Explorers is a popular choice for families commuting from Berkhamsted and surrounding areas, currently enrolling more than 70 children.

The Ofsted assessment included conversations with parents, document reviews, discussions with team members, and an evaluation of the quality of teaching and its impact on children’s learning. The inspector remarked that team members focus sharply on supporting children’s emotional well-being and effectively utilize regular group sessions to facilitate this.

Strong partnerships between staff and parents were highlighted in the report, which noted that regular consultation sessions and an electronic journal system keep parents informed about their children’s progress. Parents expressed high levels of satisfaction with the staff’s understanding of their children’s needs.

Ofsted also recognized the management team’s reflective approach to care, noting their commitment to continuous improvement. The nursery’s safeguarding arrangements were described as effective, with a positive culture that prioritizes the interests of the children.

Kirsty Cowley, the Nursery Manager, expressed pride in the report, stating, “The findings highlight the hard work and dedication of my team. We strive to create a ‘home from home’ atmosphere where children can settle quickly and embark on their educational journey.”

Cowley emphasized the importance of delivering a curriculum tailored to meet the needs and interests of each child. “I am pleased Ofsted has recognised that we are achieving our objectives with the support of our wonderful families,” she added.

Samantha Rhodes, Managing Director of Partou, praised Cowley and her team for their expertise in early years education. “They are focused not only on delivering high-quality care but also on raising standards further,” she said. “This excellent report serves as a foundation for even greater achievements in the future.”

The positive outcome of the inspection reflects the nursery’s ongoing efforts to provide quality early years education and care, ensuring a nurturing environment for young learners.
