Cheri Burns Appointed to Scottish Financial Enterprise Young Professionals Network Leadership

Sam AllcockBy Sam Allcock14/08/20243 Mins Read

Scottish Financial Enterprise (SFE), the body representing Scotland’s financial services sector, has announced the appointment of Cheri Burns to its Young Professionals network (SFEYP) leadership group. Burns, currently PR & Corporate Communications Director at RegTech firm Encompass Corporation, will take on the role of Communication Strategy Lead within the committee.

Established in 2016, SFEYP aims to support and develop the next generation of financial services professionals across Scotland. The network provides career development opportunities, networking events, and strives to make the sector more accessible to emerging talent.

Burns brings over a decade of media and communications experience to the role. Her career includes significant editorial roles at major UK publications such as The Daily Record, The Herald, and BBC Sport Scotland. She also managed publications for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships before transitioning to the financial and technology sectors with Encompass Corporation.

In her new position, Burns will be responsible for shaping and executing communications strategies to align with SFEYP’s vision and goals. Her focus will include collaborating with SFE to enhance Scotland’s financial services industry and support its objectives.

Amy Paterson, Chair of SFEYP, welcomed Burns to the committee, stating, “We are thrilled to bring new expertise into SFEYP to elevate our impact and ensure that future industry leaders are well-supported. Access to networking, training, and career progression opportunities is vital for making the financial services sector more inclusive and representative of current needs. Cheri’s experience will be instrumental in effectively delivering our messages.”

Burns expressed enthusiasm about her new role, saying, “I am excited to join such a forward-thinking group and contribute my expertise to campaigns that highlight the roles and contributions of young professionals in our industry. I look forward to building on the great work already done to showcase the benefits a thriving financial services sector can bring to customers, colleagues, and communities across the UK.”

Magalie Pimentel, VP of Marketing at Encompass Corporation, praised Burns’ appointment, commenting, “Cheri’s extensive background in media and her deep understanding of the RegTech landscape make her a valuable addition to the SFEYP team. Her passion and expertise align well with the organisation’s values, and Encompass Corporation is keen to continue supporting Scotland’s growing financial services sector through her involvement.”

Burns’ appointment comes as part of SFEYP’s ongoing efforts to enhance its influence and effectiveness within the financial services sector. With her background and skills, she is expected to play a key role in advancing the network’s mission and promoting the development of young professionals in the industry.
