A new study has found that Liverpool is the Premier League’s most searched club on Google.
SEO platform Ahrefs analysed its own data on Google searches from the UK and globally over the past 12 months, covering over 9,000 terms relating to the 20 Premier League clubs from the 2023/24 season and the three promoted clubs who will contest the 2024/25 season. Clubs were ranked by the combined average monthly searches for their top 50 most popular terms.

League Cup winners Liverpool takes the top spot, with 6.58 million average monthly searches domestically, and they also rank highest among UK teams worldwide, Googled 28.98 million times per month globally. Liverpool’s fixture with Manchester United had the largest combined total of average monthly searches, at 694,700. Six clubs featured Liverpool as their most Googled fixture, including rivals Manchester United and Everton.
Manchester United were second in the UK and globally, drawing 6.25 million average monthly searches domestically and 27.14 million globally. Liverpool was their most looked-up matchup overall, searched an average of 694,700 times per month. The FA Cup semi-final fixture with Coventry drew the most average monthly queries for a single term, with 114,000 for “Coventry vs Man United.” Manchester United had the most first places in this ranking than any other team, with seven, including for rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
Premier League runners-up Arsenal is third domestically and globally, with 23.18 million combined average monthly searches globally and 5.44 million in the UK. The Gunners’ fixture with title rivals Manchester City drew the most interest, at 411,800 average queries per month. This included their largest individual search term, “Arsenal vs Man City,” with 109,000. Arsenal’s fixture featured top for other clubs four times, including with fourth-place finishers Aston Villa.
Chelsea is fourth in the UK, with 2.73 million average monthly searches, and fifth worldwide, with 16.23 million. Liverpool was Chelsea’s most Googled fixture overall, with a monthly average of 394,700 searches.
Premier League winners for a historic fourth time in a row, Manchester City are the fifth most Googled club in the UK, with 2.61 million average monthly searches, and fourth globally, looked up an average of 21.67 million times worldwide each month. Manchester City’s Champions League quarter-final fixture with eventual winners Real Madrid was the most popular individual search term, with “Real Madrid vs Man City” drawing 138,000 on average each month. The fixtures with local rivals Manchester United had the largest combined total, with 473,900, and the Citizens’ fixture was featured at the top of three teams’ rankings, including those of title rivals, Arsenal.
Tottenham Hotspur is sixth domestically and globally, with monthly averages of 2.49 million in the UK and 7.73 million worldwide. Manchester United was Spurs’ most interesting fixture, with a combined total of 187,200 average monthly searches.
Newcastle United rank seventh domestically, looked up an average of 2.4 million times per month in the UK, and seventh globally, with 5.44 million searches on average each month worldwide.
Everton is the eighth most Googled club in the UK, with 1.64 million domestic searches, and tenth globally, being looked up 3.04 million times each month on average across the globe. The Merseyside Derby with local rivals Liverpool was Everton’s most interesting fixture overall, drawing 179,950 combined average monthly queries.
West Ham is ninth in the UK and globally, Googled on average 1.62 million times in the UK and 3.65 million times worldwide per month. West Ham’s most popular fixture was with Manchester United, with 193,250 on average each month.
Champions League qualifiers Aston Villa complete the domestic top 10, with 1.57 million average monthly searches in the UK, and rank eighth globally, Googled worldwide 4.3 million times per month. Villa’s fixture with Arsenal was the Villans’ most fascinating fixture, with 280,350 combined average monthly searches.
Crystal Palace ranks lowest among the Premier League’s most searched clubs in the UK and globally. The Eagles had a combined average monthly total of 207,900 domestic searches and 366,300 international searches.

“The Premier League is the most watched football league in the world, featuring some of the most well-known football clubs worldwide. It is also the richest, with even a season in the topflight, meaning hundreds of millions more in a club’s bank account.
“This global significance prompted us to look at which Premier League clubs might be the most interesting, finding that by Google searches, Liverpool is the most searched, and Crystal Palace the least.”
